Couple drives vehicle into Rio Grande in failed attempt to flee from police

Eagle Pass, TX - A couple that was transporting seven illegal immigrants was arrested by Border Patrol agents after the vehicle they were fleeing in was driven into the Rio Grande in an attempt to evade authorities.

This event took place early on Wednesday when elements of the Texas Department of Public Safety and Border Patrol attempted to stop a Dodge Durango vehicle after suspecting that it was transporting illegal immigrants.

The pursuit that began in an area north of the city ended at the ramp that Border Patrol Agents utilizes to submerge into the river near Shelby Park.

The individuals got off the vehicle and before they could escape to the Mexican side, they were captured.

A crane made maneuvers to remove the car from the water; the occupants remained in custody and were later taken to the south station to face the corresponding process.

Este hecho tuvo lugar la madrugada de este miércoles cuando elementos del Departamento de Seguridad Pública y Patrulla Fronteriza de Texas intentaron detener un vehículo Dodge Durango tras sospechar que transportaba inmigrantes ilegales.

La persecución que comenzó en un área al norte de la ciudad terminó en la rampa que utilizan los agentes de la Patrulla Fronteriza para sumergirse en el río cerca de Shelby Park.

Los individuos se bajaron del vehículo y antes de que pudieran escapar hacia el lado mexicano fueron capturados.

Una grúa hizo maniobras para sacar el carro del agua; los ocupantes permanecieron bajo custodia y posteriormente fueron trasladados a la estación sur para enfrentar el proceso correspondiente.
