The Eagle Pass Chamber of Commerce is now accepting nominations for selection of the “Citizen of the Year” for the year 2018. The purpose of this award is to foster the community’s sense of volunteerism by seeking out and honoring an adult individual who has voluntarily and without compensation contributed, during the year for which the award is made, in an outstanding and exceptional manner to the betterment of our community and its citizens.

“We are appealing to service groups, schools, places of worship, sports leagues, charitable organizations and citizens for help in finding good candidates for this important recognition,” Chamber Executive Director Sandra Martinez said. “The Chamber believes in the importance of recognizing the valuable contributions that so many people make to our community. It’s all about character and setting a good example for others to follow. Eagle Pass is fortunate that there are so many people who generously give of their time and talent on a daily basis,” Martinez added.

The recipient of this award will be chosen by a committee-at-large which will apply the selection criteria to each nomination, then make its decision. Only activities outside a nominee’s regular employment are considered. Among past award recipients are Paul Alcozer, Morris Libson Jr., Timothy “Tim” Hardt, and Rebecca “Becky” Robinson.

Official nomination forms and guidelines for candidate nominations may be obtained at the Chamber of Commerce, located at 400 Garrison Street. The deadline to submit nominations to the Chamber of Commerce is Thursday, January 31, 2019, at 5 p.m.

The name of the 2018 “Citizen of the Year” will be announced at the annual Chamber of Commerce banquet to be held in February, 2019, pending exact date.

La Cámara de Comercio de Eagle Pass está aceptando nominaciones para la selección del "Ciudadano del Año" para el año 2018. El propósito de este premio es fomentar el sentido de voluntariado de la comunidad al buscar y honrar a una persona adulta que voluntariamente y sin compensación contribuida, durante el año para el cual se otorga el premio, de manera excepcional y excepcional para el mejoramiento de nuestra comunidad y sus ciudadanos.

"Estamos pidiendo ayuda a grupos de servicio, escuelas, lugares de culto, ligas deportivas, organizaciones caritativas y ciudadanos para encontrar buenos candidatos para este importante reconocimiento", dijo la Directora Ejecutiva de la Cámara, Sandra Martínez. “La Cámara cree en la importancia de reconocer las valiosas contribuciones que muchas personas hacen a nuestra comunidad. Se trata del carácter y de ser un buen ejemplo para que otros lo sigan. "Eagle Pass tiene la suerte de que hay tantas personas que dan generosamente su tiempo y talento a diario", agregó Martínez.

El ganador de este premio será elegido por un comité general que aplicará los criterios de selección a cada nominación y luego tomará su decisión. Solo se consideran las actividades fuera del empleo regular de un candidato. Entre los ganadores de premios anteriores se encuentran Paul Alcozer, Morris Libson Jr., Timothy "Tim" Hardt y Rebecca "Becky" Robinson.
