Eagle Pass, TX - Jesus Vázquez, 26, has been sentenced to 48 years in prison for the brutal murder of Evelyn Guardado, a young woman who worked as a guard at the private GEO prison in Maverick County.

The sentence was handed down Monday following an agreement between the defense, the prosecution, and the district judge, in a hearing before Judge Maribel Flores.

The hearing, which began at 9:00 a.m., concluded swiftly by 10:00 a.m., with a resolution that met the expectations of District Attorney Roberto Serna, who had anticipated Vázquez would plead guilty to the crime.

Guardado, a corrections officer, was killed on January 31 of the previous year as she was heading home after completing her shift at the facility located on TX-131 near Brackettville. One week later, on February 7, her body was found, partially buried in a remote area in Quemado, Texas.
