Teen, 13, Survives Gunshot to Neck; Suspects in Juvenile Custody

EAGLE PASS, TX — A 13-year-old boy is recovering after undergoing surgery in San Antonio for a gunshot wound that entered through the back of his neck and exited through his face. Authorities say his condition is now stable and improving.

Two 16-year-old teens have been taken into custody by the Juvenile Department in connection with the shooting, according to Maverick County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Roberto de León. Both suspects have been processed and made aware of the charges they face following a hearing with a magistrate.

Investigators have recovered a 9mm handgun believed to have been used in the incident. The weapon has been submitted for forensic analysis as part of the ongoing investigation.

On Tuesday, the lead detective and a Texas Ranger traveled to San Antonio to interview the injured teen as part of efforts to clarify the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Once all evidence and statements are compiled, the case will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for further legal action.

Los investigadores han recuperado una pistola de 9 mm que se cree fue utilizada en el incidente. El arma ha sido sometida a análisis forense como parte de la investigación en curso.

El martes, el detective a cargo y un Ranger de Texas viajaron a San Antonio para entrevistar al adolescente herido, como parte de los esfuerzos para esclarecer las circunstancias del tiroteo.
