Eagle Pass, TX - There will be approximately 32 inmates that the Maverick County jail will receive from Hidalgo County authorities, once the transportation agreement is signed.
After an important visit to the local Tom Bowles Detention Center on Thursday morning by officials from Hidalgo County, Schmerber assured that the facility is in good condition and the visitors agreed.
The transportation of 32 prisoners will make it easier for the county to receive a $61 daily fee per inmate and if possible later rehabilitate more space to increase capacity.
In addition, if the jail continues to receive resources, next year's budget will increase, resulting in more units or officers for the Maverick County Sheriff's Office.
