EAGLE PASS, TX — Just one week after a city resolution was passed to strengthen animal welfare policies, Mayor Aaron Valdez has moved swiftly to deliver on his campaign promise to prioritize the care and safety of pets and animals in the community.
On Monday, Mayor Valdez met with local leaders in animal health and rescue to begin organizing a free pet vaccination event and enhance citywide animal control efforts. The mayor was joined by Chief of Police Amy Gonzalez, Assistant City Manager Ivan Morua, Kina Mancha of Viva K9, and Sandy Tovar of The Buddy Foundation.
“This is about putting action behind our words,” Valdez said in a statement. “By working together with the people who’ve been doing this work day in and day out, we’re building the kind of compassionate, responsible programs our residents and their animals deserve.”
The upcoming event is expected to offer free vaccinations and resources to pet owners and will be open to the entire community. Details, including dates and locations, will be announced in the coming days.
Valdez emphasized that these partnerships demonstrate what’s possible when city leaders collaborate with on-the-ground advocates. “This is how we move forward — together,” he added.
The initiative is part of a broader strategy to improve animal services in Eagle Pass, including expanding access to veterinary care and implementing more humane control measures for stray and abandoned animals.
