Mayor, City Council to discuss permanent closure of three heavily transited downtown area streets

Williams, Rio Grande and N Church are among the most transited streets downtown, a complete closure could result in heavy traffic congestion.

Eagle Pass, TX - The City of Eagle Pass and Union Pacific are scheduled to negotiate the possible closure of three downtown area heavily transited streets that cross through the railroad tracks. The targeted streets are among the most transited roads in the downtown area, a complete closure could result in heavy traffic congestion.


Two of the targeted streets are Williams and Rio Grande, both located adjacent to the overpasses of El Indio Hwy and Garrison St. The two mentioned streets along with the third, N Church Street, if approved by City Council could be permanently closed as proposed by giant railroad company Union Pacific.

The rail road is a never-ending controversial issue in this community, people continuously complain about the noise and traffic caused by the train. Closure of Williams, Rio Grande and Church Streets, could lead to discomfort among residents in Eagle Pass.


The issue will be addressed on Tuesday's regular City Council Meeting scheduled at 5:30 p.m. in City Hall. Taxpayers and Community Residents can attend this meeting and express their disagreement with the said proposal made by Union Pacific.

Eagle Pass, TX - La Ciudad de Eagle Pass y Union Pacific tienen programado negociar el posible cierre de tres calles transitadas del centro de la ciudad que cruzan las vías del ferrocarril. Las calles seleccionadas son algunas de las más transitadas, un cierre completo podría generar una gran congestión de tráfico vehicular.


Dos de las calles seleccionadas son Williams y Rio Grande, ambas ubicadas junto a los pasos superiores de El Indio Hwy y Garrison St. Las dos calles mencionadas junto con la tercera siendo, N Church Street, si el Concilio lo aprueba, podrían cerrarse permanentemente según la propuesta por la gigantesca compañía de ferrocarril Union Pacific.


La 'vía del tren' es un tema de controversial interminable en esta comunidad, la gente continuamente se queja del ruido y el tráfico causado por el tren. El cierre de las calles Williams, Rio Grande y Church podría causar molestias entre los residentes de Eagle Pass.


El tema se tratará en la junta del Concilio de la Ciudad programada para este martes a las 5:30 p.m. en el "City Hall." Los pagadores de impuestos y los residentes de la comunidad pueden asistir a esta reunión y expresar su desacuerdo con dicha propuesta hecha por Union Pacific.
