Maverick County Jury Convicts Man of Evading Arrest in High-Speed Pursuit

EAGLE PASS, TX — A Maverick County jury has found Juan Carrizales guilty of Evading Arrest with a Motor Vehicle following a two-day trial in the 293rd Judicial District Court.
The conviction stems from an incident on August 31, 2020, when Maverick County sheriff’s deputies attempted to stop Carrizales for allegedly violating a protective order. Instead, Carrizales fled the scene in a vehicle, leading officers on a pursuit before abandoning the car and escaping on foot. He was located and arrested four days later.
Prosecutors Ruben Ramos and Hugo Zapata presented body camera and dashcam footage of the chase, which was key in securing a unanimous guilty verdict from the jury.
Carrizales is scheduled to be sentenced on August 29, 2025.
The 293rd District Attorney’s Office reaffirmed its commitment to holding offenders accountable and ensuring public safety for the residents of Maverick County.
