Your Lady Eagles have advanced to round three of the state high score softball playoffs with a hard fought 7-6 victory over the Edinburg Lady Bobcats in a third and deciding area championship game.
The Lady Eagles won game one of the series 11-7 on Friday night with a gutsy come from behind victory in which they scored four times in the seventh to force extra innings and five more in the eighth to take the commanding lead.
In game two Saturday afternoon the highly regarded Lady Bobcats knotted the series with a convincing 8-2 win.
But in the nightcap the young Lady Eagle squad rebounded impressively jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning only to see Edinburg respond with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning.
In the top of the second inning the Lady Eagles added five more runs to their total and held con the rest of the way to earn the area championship title.
Leading the way for the Lady Eagles was junior catcher Brooke Diaz with two hits in three at bats including a homerun, 2 runs scored and most importantly 4 RBIs.
A well rounded group of other Lady Eagles contributed to the scoring including Lashov Reyes 2 for 3 at the plate with a run scored; Kayla Ochoa 1 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI; Heather Ruiz 1 for 4 with a run scored; L. Morales 1 for 3 with an RBI; A. Martinez with one RBI; and Lee Ann Dunn and Paola Daniel each scoring a run.
After falling behind 7-2 in just two innings the Lady Bobcats clawed their way back with two runs in each of the third and sixth innings but were shut down in the seventh by the Lady Eagles.
