Human Smuggler Sentenced to 15 Years in Prison in Maverick County

MAVERICK COUNTY, TX — A man found guilty of human smuggling has been sentenced to 15 years in prison following a ruling by a jury in the 265th District Court for an incident that occurred within Maverick County.

Felipe de Jesús Dorado was arrested by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) and charged with a third-degree felony related to human smuggling. According to District Attorney Roberto Serna, the lengthy sentence was handed down due to Dorado’s prior involvement in a similar offense.

“It’s important to impose strong sentences on these types of smugglers because they often cause death or serious injury to others,” Serna stated.

Dorado will first be transferred to the state prison facility in Huntsville before being moved to another state correctional institution to serve the remainder of his sentence. The District Attorney’s Office remains committed to seeking justice for victims of human smuggling across Maverick, Dimmit, and Zavala counties.

MAVERICK COUNTY, TX — Un hombre acusado de tráfico de personas fue sentenciado a 15 años de prisión tras ser declarado culpable por un jurado en la Corte del Distrito 365 por un delito cometido en el condado de Maverick.

Felipe de Jesús Dorado fue arrestado por agentes del Departamento de Seguridad Pública de Texas (DPS) y enfrentó cargos por una felonía de tercer grado relacionada con contrabando humano. El fiscal del distrito, Roberto Serna, confirmó que la sentencia fue elevada debido a antecedentes previos del acusado en actividades similares.

“Es importante aplicar sentencias fuertes contra este tipo de traficantes, porque muchas veces causan muertes o dejan a personas lesionadas,” señaló Serna.

Dorado será trasladado inicialmente a la prisión estatal en Huntsville, y luego a otra instalación donde cumplirá el resto de su condena. La Fiscalía del Distrito continúa trabajando para garantizar justicia en casos de tráfico humano en los condados de Maverick, Dimmit y Zavala.
