Eagle Pass, TX - A credit card "skimmer" was detected in a gasoline pump at a station located on Del Río Blvd and the authorities have placed the case under investigation.
The device known as ‘skimmer’ was detected by the employees of the establishment located on the 3200 block of the busy highway, when doing maintenance work, and reported the discovery to the sheriff's department.
In this case, the Sheriff Tom Schmerber said that they have requested the support of the state authority to carry out an investigation and find the responsible person(s).
At the end of last year, two similar devices were also detected in gasoline pumps at a station, coincidentally located in Del Río Blvd.
The function of these devices is to obtain or "clone" the information of each person who pays for gasoline with a card; that's where identity theft comes from, and hence fraud occurs, said Sherif Tom Schmerber.

Eagle Pass, TX - Se detectó un "clonador" de tarjetas de crédito en una bomba de gasolina en una estación ubicada en Del Río Blvd y las autoridades han puesto el caso bajo investigación.
El dispositivo conocido como "skimmer" fue detectado por los empleados del establecimiento ubicado en la cuadra 3200 de la transitada carretera, cuando realizaban trabajos de mantenimiento, e informaron del hallazgo al departamento del alguacil.
En este caso, el alguacil Tom Schmerber dijo que han solicitado el apoyo de la autoridad estatal para realizar una investigación y encontrar a la(s) persona(s) responsable(s).
A fines del año pasado, también se detectaron dos dispositivos similares en bombas de gasolina en una estación, ubicada casualmente en Del Río Blvd.
La función de estos dispositivos es obtener o "clonar" la información de cada persona que paga la gasolina con una tarjeta; de ahí proviene el robo de identidad y, por lo tanto, se produce el fraude, dijo el alguacil Tom Schmerber.
