Eagles take one game lead in bi-district series

The Eagles rode the strong left arm of Rey Rey Mendoza and some timely power hitting to take a one game edge in the bi-district series versus the La Joya Coyotes by a score of 7-0.

Mendoza tossed his best game of the season limiting the Coyotes to just one hit while striking out 12 and issuing just 3 walks in a complete game win. Braulio Rodriguez started the offensive punch with a one-out, 2 RBI double to left in the bottom of the third.

In the fifth the Eagles added 3 runs on an RBI double by Mendoza, an RBI single off the bat of Dee Andre Torres who later scored on a passed ball.

In the seventh inning Torres doubled deep to right to push 2 more runs across the plate. Complementing the offensive output Coach Reynol Mendoza turned his speedy Eagles loose on the basepaths swiping numerous sacks and executing a nice hit-and-run. Game two is scheduled for Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the Laredo United SAC baseball complex. A third game will follow of necessary.
