EAGLE PASS, TX — The City of Eagle Pass has set a new all-time record in commercial truck crossings, with 1,619 trucks registered in a single day—surpassing the previous record of just over 1,100 set a few months ago.
According to City Manager Homero Balderas, the number of commercial vehicles passing through the port has steadily increased. “Just last year, we were averaging between 800 to 900 daily commercial trucks. We’ve nearly doubled that figure,” he noted.
Balderas attributes the growth to major freight companies choosing the Coahuila-Texas route through Piedras Negras and Eagle Pass to transport their goods.
“This surge motivates us to keep pushing for the expansion of the international bridge to 12 lanes,” Balderas said. “Our goal is to elevate Eagle Pass as one of the top ports of entry along the entire U.S.-Mexico border.”
He emphasized the importance of prioritizing commercial traffic and ensuring the upcoming bridge expansion delivers the expected results.
