Big Wells, TX - A Dimmit County Sheriff's Office deputy was shot on Tuesday evening by a wanted fugitive near Big Wells, Texas.
According to sources the deputy identified as Joshua Garcia performed a traffic stop on a subject who responded with open fire; impacting the officer at least once.
The Dimmit County Sheriff’s Office had the vicinity of HWY 85 & FM 1867 (Big Wells) closed for the shooting investigation.
Shooter was detained and remains in custody. The Texas Department of Public Safety is assisting with the investigation.
DCSO Deputy Garcia was transported to a San Antonio hospital via a medical helicopter where he remains in stable condition and is expected to fully recover.
Dilley PD Officers & FCSO Deputies then escorted the Ambulance that transported Dimmit County Deputy Sheriff J. Garcia to Frio Regional Hospital in Pearsall, Tx where he was then airlifted to a San Antonio Medical center listed in stable condition.
The alleged shooter was identified as Rocky Carrizales who was reportedly being tracked down by the U.S. Marshals.

El tirador fue detenido y permanece bajo custodia. El Departamento de Seguridad Pública de Texas está ayudando con la investigación.
El diputado de DCSO García fue trasladado a un hospital de San Antonio en un helicóptero médico donde permanece en condición estable y se espera que se recupere por completo.
