Councilman Rolando Salinas to run for EP mayor, challenges incumbent Luis Sifuentes

Eagle Pass, TX - Local attorney and seating City Councilman Rolando Salinas has made his intention to run for Mayor in the upcoming elections official in an early Wednesday morning press release.

Salinas is a well-known resident of the community, who is challenging fellow council member incumbent Mayor Luis Sifuentes in what is expected to be a hotly contested race for the City's top and very sensitive position especially throughout the ongoing pandemic.

"I, Rolando Salinas, Jr, would like to formally announce my intention to register as a candidate for Mayor of the City of Eagle Pass this coming January 2021. The upcoming election will take place on May 1, 2021," Salinas announced in the press release followed by the below message.

I was born and raised in Eagle Pass, Texas. My parents are Rolando Salinas and the late Yolanda Salinas. My siblings are Alicia Flores, Alma Morales, Adrian Salinas, and Diego J. Salinas. I recently got married to Marissa Salinas. She relocated from Boston to Eagle Pass so that we could start a family together in this great City. We made this decision after a lot of thought and prayer.

I graduated from Eagle Pass High School. Attended St. Mary’s University in San Antonio and obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science in 2006. I then continued my studies at Loyola University New Orleans – College of Law, where I obtained my Juris Doctorate Degree in 2010.

I have been practicing law for ten years. Currently, I am a Partner at the law firm of Knickerbocker, Heredia, Salinas & Salinas, P.C. I, along with my partners, manage the day-to-day operations of this office. Throughout my nine years of practice, I have represented hundreds of citizens of our community in both civil and criminal matters.

I currently serve on the Eagle Pass, City Council, Place 4. I took office in February. Serving the people of Eagle Pass has been an honor for me. I really enjoy being part of the Council. Important decisions regarding the city’s growth, prosperity, economic development, infrastructure, public safety, and the city’s finances are made by the Council. These decisions have a direct impact on the residents of Eagle Pass.

I believe I can provide the leadership Eagle Pass needs. I will work with Council and other entities to make sound decisions for the benefit of all residents. This community has given me so much including my education and livelihood. I have no hidden agendas. My decision to run for Mayor is solely to serve the people with integrity and prosperity.

I humbly ask for your support in the coming election,

God bless you all.
