City Secures $260K in Federal Funding to Make Streets Safer

EAGLE PASS, TX — In a major win for local infrastructure, the City of Eagle Pass has officially secured $260,000 in funding through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program—marking the city’s first-ever federally funded roadway safety initiative.
The grant includes $240,000 in federal support and a $30,000 local match to develop a comprehensive Safety Action Plan aimed at identifying high-risk areas, reducing traffic injuries, and enhancing pedestrian, cyclist, and driver safety across the city.
“This is a transformative moment for Eagle Pass,” said Mayor Aaron Valdez. “We’re building a safer, smarter future for everyone in our community.”
City Manager Homero Balderas added that the plan is a major step toward a more resilient transportation network and reflects the city’s commitment to data-driven planning and community-focused development.
Work on the Safety Action Plan will begin immediately, with community input opportunities to be announced soon.

EAGLE PASS, TX — En un importante logro para la infraestructura local, la Ciudad de Eagle Pass ha obtenido oficialmente $260,000 en fondos a través del programa Calles y Carreteras Seguras para Todos (SS4A) del Departamento de Transporte de los Estados Unidos, lo que marca la primera iniciativa de seguridad vial financiada con fondos federales en la ciudad.
La subvención incluye $240,000 en apoyo federal y una contribución local de $30,000 para desarrollar un Plan de Acción de Seguridad integral destinado a identificar zonas de alto riesgo, reducir las lesiones por accidentes de tránsito y mejorar la seguridad de peatones, ciclistas y conductores en toda la ciudad.
