City Secures $260K in Federal Funding to Make Streets Safer

EAGLE PASS, TX — In a major win for local infrastructure, the City of Eagle Pass has officially secured $260,000 in funding through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program—marking the city’s first-ever federally funded roadway safety initiative.
The grant includes $240,000 in federal support and a $30,000 local match to develop a comprehensive Safety Action Plan aimed at identifying high-risk areas, reducing traffic injuries, and enhancing pedestrian, cyclist, and driver safety across the city.
“This is a transformative moment for Eagle Pass,” said Mayor Aaron Valdez. “We’re building a safer, smarter future for everyone in our community.”
City Manager Homero Balderas added that the plan is a major step toward a more resilient transportation network and reflects the city’s commitment to data-driven planning and community-focused development.
Work on the Safety Action Plan will begin immediately, with community input opportunities to be announced soon.
