CBP Officers Seize Nearly Half a Million Dollars in Cocaine at Eagle Pass Port of Entry
EAGLE PASS, Texas — U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Camino Real International Bridge intercepted more than $488,000 worth of cocaine hidden in a commercial tractor-trailer, authorities confirmed Monday.
The seizure took place on Aug. 9 when CBP’s Office of Field Operations (OFO) officers encountered a 2007 Volvo ISX tractor entering the United States from Mexico. During the initial inspection, a nonintrusive imaging system detected irregularities within the vehicle. A CBP canine team was called in and alerted to the presence of narcotics.
A subsequent physical inspection uncovered 16 packages of alleged cocaine, weighing a combined 36.59 pounds (16.6 kilograms), concealed inside the tractor. The narcotics carry an estimated street value of $488,637.
“This drug seizure demonstrates the dedication of our officers,” said Port Director Pete Beattie. “Their actions directly disrupt the flow of dangerous drugs and protect the safety of our citizens.”
The cocaine and tractor-trailer were seized by CBP, and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents have launched a criminal investigation into the case.
The seizure underscores CBP’s continued efforts to combat the smuggling of illicit drugs across the U.S.-Mexico border, a challenge that remains at the forefront of border security operations in South Texas.
Great work by the CBP officers at Eagle Pass. The layered inspection approach—imaging technology, K-9 units, and physical searches—clearly works. Nearly 37 pounds of cocaine off the streets is a solid win for border security. How to remove the bumper in Opel
