PIEDRAS NEGRAS, COAH, MX- In 2016, while Fernando Puron Johnston held the seat of Mayor of Piedras Negras, a message was left on the municipal cemetery's wall reading, "Chingas a Tu madre Puron, en 2 años te vamos a mochar la cabeza" translation: 'F*ck you Puron, in 2 years we are going to chop your head off'.
At that time, the threat was directed to the now deceased former mayor of Piedras Negras warning that they would chop his head off once he leaves office. In response to the threat, he stated he would continue to combat crime until it was completely wiped out from this border.
Friday night, two years after said threat Fernando Puron Johnston, PRI's (Institutional Revolutionary Party) candidate for Congress participated in a debate that took place at the Universidad Autonoma de Coahuila in Piedras Negras.
Accompanied by his wife and his personal assistant, in the exterior part of the University attempting to depart the location, Puron walked to a person holding a phone to pose for a picture.
In a matter of seconds, the assassin approached him from behind and shot him in the head, executing him before getting away. Brief moments after the tragedy the surveillance video recording that captured the assassination went viral throughout all Social Media Platforms.
