Attorney Victor E. Perry announces candidacy for School Board

I am writing to formally announce my candidacy for the Eagle Pass Independent School District Board of Trustees, Place 3.

My name is Victor E. Perry, son of Victor R. and Guadalupe H. Perry. I am married to Sonia Castillo Perry and am blessed with four children; Kristel Perry, Monizza Perry, Victor E. Perry, Jr. and Michael Perry.

I graduated from Eagle Pass High School, earned a bachelor's degree and later graduated from St. Mary’s Law School in San Antonio, Texas. I opened my own law firm and have been successfully representing clients from Eagle Pass and the surrounding areas since 2002. I served as the Maverick County Democratic Chairman from 2012 to 2016. I am a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and have supported and contributed to various youth activities and organizations in Maverick County

I am running to ensure that our school district is preparing our students well to compete academically. We want our students to be college and career ready and I am committed to raising college readiness and enhancing our vocational and technical programs to provide our students with the tools to compete and succeed economically.

It is important to promote quality instruction for all of our students. We need to support our teachers so they can dedicate their time to instruction; and provide them with competitive salaries. We must provide students access to the latest technology so they can explore and seek new knowledge. In the digital era, technology will be critical in the preparation of our students. We have to prepare our students for the 21stCentury workforce and the public good.

We have to take any and all precautionary measures to ensure that students and staff feel safe and secure in our schools. With all the issues involved with social media today, we have to equip our school district police with whatever is required to ensure the safety of our children.

School finance is a critical legislative issue that the district needs to be attentive to and resources need to be allocated to continue to enhance instruction. I am anxious to learn how our school tax system works. My intention is to make sure the Tax Ratification Election funds are prioritized and spent wisely within our district. At some point in the near future we should find a way to decrease our property taxes with our local expert staff.

My goal is to help make our school district the envy of our region by providing our educators and all school personnel with the tools and resources that are necessary to make our district the best it can be. I am confident I can work with the current school board members to accomplish this task and make our parents and students proud of our school district.

While our school district continues to face many challenges, I have no doubt that new energy, leadership and a will to collaborate, can ignite our school district's potential to create a better future for all of our students.

I am a proud product of our school district and I respectfully request your vote and support. Early voting will begin October 22 through November 2, 2018 and the election will be November 6.

Sincerely,

Victor E. Perry
